What’s Goin’ On? 3 Things to Do This Weekend

February got a little dicey at the beginning for blogging then I got super busy and had crazy things happen so I just decided to give up on the shortest month of the year. Which, by the way last month was the craziest, fastest month of my life by far (then I was quickly reminded it’s the shortest month of the year so this is probably accurate for everyone)…

Anywho, I have a couple great posts lined up but I just wanted to craft one today to let you know that I’m still alive and kickin’. I wanted to share a few random tidbits and things that I think you should know about. This was actually pretty much my February in a nutshell but decided it could be a “What Should I Do This Weekend?” post.

So here’s a few ideas:

Read Gone Girl

This technically should go in a separate “February Books” blog post but as you can tell from where this post started, I didn’t really get to reading like I did in January. However, I did read Gone Girl, and yes, I read it in a few days tops, I had to finish it! I never watched the movie so it was all fresh for me. Here’s what I will say about the book; it wasn’t bad but I expected way more. I kept reading because I was waiting for the mind-blowing end and I didn’t really feel like I got it. I won’t give away any spoilers so don’t worry, but I really thought there would be a crazier ending. Don’t get me wrong, it was crazy but I thought there would be an alternative ending from what happened.

After I finished the book I watched the movie and it was good! Crazy seeing Rosamond Pike playing Amy, I only know her as Jane Bennet in Pride and Prejudice!

I would love to hear what you thought of Gone Girl! Most people would rate in their top books that they couldn’t put down. I’m waiting to read The Woman in Cabin 10, as I hear it’s pretty similar on the thrill scale.

Watch movies fo free at

I sure hope I don’t get in trouble for this one but this was hands down one of the best internet finds, ever. The website lets you watch any movie you want online! Even those in theaters! Say goodbye to your productive weekend with this site. I literally watched back-to-back movies one day. Passengers, which was good. Arrival which was super, super confusing. And Ms. Sloane which at first I wasn’t sure about it but after thinking about it I recommend it, especially if you like shows like Scandal.

Plan an “Experience”

THIS IS FLIPPING AWESOME. Airbnb just launched a new thing called Experiences where you can book actual adventures instead of a place to stay. You get to connect with local experts and they will create experiences for you whether it’s planning a horseback riding trip in Rome, run and fitness in London, and my favorite: party like a disco queen in L.A.

I mean, seriously! How. Cool. Is. That?

I know it’s only Tuesday, but whatcha doin’ this weekend? Did you realize that time saving starts this Sunday?… I can’t believe it either. It’s already almost Spring ya’ll!!

Life in Summer 2016 (So Far…)

After a 2-week hiatus of binge-watching Game of Thrones (Holy crap that was good), then discovering PokemonGO, then just not wanting to get back at it. HERE I AM BLOGOSPHERE!! I’M BACK!

I don’t even really have something relevant to say. I’m currently having a mix of writer’s block/I don’t want to actually do anything right now.

You know what I’ll do? Let’s just share life thus far in the summer of 2016. Here are a few things I’ve learned in the heat wave.

1. Cuban coffee is actually… LEGIT.

Ever since that episode of Kourtney and Kim Take Miami (you know the one), I’ve wanted to try Cuban coffee. I tend to find my way to caffeine even though I probably do not need it. Well, I tried it in a teensy tiny little cup (the waitress warned us that’s all we needed) from Miami and DANG. New fave thing. It tasted like chocolate!!!

2. Bull testicles are gross

Yes, I know. I’m ashamed. You have read that correctly. As a pescatarian, I don’t eat that stuff, but YOLO. We went to the annual Round the Bend Testicle Festival and it had to be done – at least one bite!! Well, it was no bueno. I’ll stick to my veggie patties! 🙂 I did have delicious nachos, though! Speaking of other foods at the festival, LOOK AT THAT CORNDOG.

3. I suck at golf.

I already knew this, but I verified it this summer. To be fair, I’ve never really given it a full shot. I’m a tennis player, and golf tends to bore me. But let me tell you I do plan on giving 100% at some point… With lots of booze involved, of course. I did manage to do one good swing and got it on camera!! I was so excited I ended up throwing my club in the air like I just don’t care. I even broke the tee, I was so pumped!

4. Adulting can be a little fun I suppose…

Brandon and I have never owned a “reliable” car. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I loved my Ford Focus back in the day and shout out to the Geo Prism who got me through high school! But neither of us have actually purchased our own vehicle. Literally, my air conditing didn’t work and Brandon sold his car to a junk yard and managed to get $200 when some only offered $25.

Well, that all changed this summer… I present to you “Ellen the Elantra”.

5. Game of Thrones was worth ALL the hype

GAH!!! My June was consumed by GOT. IT WAS SO GOOD. I should’ve started it later in the year, though because we have to wait so long for the new season!!

I’ll save a special little post later for GOT! 🙂

This is only a tiny bit of this summer so far and still so many great things ahead! But I’m just getting back into this and I already feel out of shape blogging. More coming later!

Hangovers, Debt, and Post-College Life: A Review

Everyone knows that time of life. The mid-life crisis. But what about the one before that when your life hits a quarter in its age? Well, I found some words that speak to every mid-20-something’s soul.

I don’t even remember how, but I stumbled across this new book coming out called Quarter Life Poetry: Poems for the Young, Broke, and Hangry”by Samantha Jayne. I impulsed pre-ordered the book on Amazon because it was calling my name. It’s a short read (win), relatable (also win), and the poems I read I was LOL’ing (ca-ching!)

Even though it’s not a novel or memoir to make you gain heaps of knowledge, it’s pretty good. Bonus: with nice little paintings dedicated to each poem 🙂

Here are some of my favorite lines and it’s also way funnier when you actually read it aloud like a poet does:

“Today I saw a baby
with such cuteness and grace,
I thought, ‘Aw I want a baby,’
but then I punched myself in the face.”

“I can’t afford a Zen garden
or tranquility pond,
so I’ll unwind by wandering
through Bed Bath & Beyond.”

“My alma mater implored me
to send them a donation.
If anything, I should write them
an equal invitation.”

“The waiting list was dismal,
the trek there was a pain,
but my muffin got twelve likes,
so brunch was not in vain.”

Want more? Check out her book on Amazon

P.S. This makes a great gift for anyone turning 25+! 😉

I don’t think I’ve hit a quarter-life crisis, but I do get down when I realize my hangovers are the worst they’ve ever been after drinking like 5 drinks in an 8-hour time span the night before. What is this? I also finally realized why credit cards suck. I screwed myself over in college and now I’m paying for it, literally. Along with student loans. EEK. How did that diploma cost so much is what I wanna know. I will also never take the freedom of my N-Card for granted ever, again. Those random snack hauls from the Union paid in full by my little red N-Card and I never saw the bill. That’s l-i-v-i-n-g.

25 is great, though, don’t get me wrong! I still feel young as ever but if I could be granted one wish. I would go back to tailgating with da crew in the bottoms and drinking jungle juice, sleeping in until noon because I only had an afternoon class to attend to. I mean, AMIRIGHT?! THE LIFE!

Last Minute Halloween Costumes That You Haven’t Thought of Yet

As I sit here patiently awaiting the completion of my iPhone update for 150 new emoji’s, I decided to bless the world with this post. Which by the way, why the h-e-double hockey sticks do we need to add 150 more emoji’s on to the tiny 2-inch keyboard anyway?! Seriously, I can barely find the emoji I’m looking for already!

Oh well. I guess having a burrito emoji to truly express my emotions everyday isn’t so bad.

Back to da post. Now I don’t know about you gals ( sorry, this one isn’t for boys ), but I love me some Rent the Runway! Have you ever done it? If not, long story short you can rent dresses, clothes, and accessories for 4 or 8 days and then send it back after you’ve worn it. It’s great to do for party’s, wedding, anything where you can’t get away with sweats, basically. I’ve RTR’ed about 6 or 7 times now and I LOVE it. As I was looking for a dress for this weekend last night ( can you tell the procrastination is an issue for me? ) I saw so many dresses that I thought “Hey! That could be a Halloween costume!!” ( Because I also don’t have that planned out yet, either )…

Here were some ideas I had AND they beat out the cheap “sexy zombie Spongebob” any day. Oh, and won’t break your wallet. ( for real, I even have a coupon code at the end ) 😉

OPTION #1: Black Swan

black-swan-costumeHonestly, I just want an excuse to wear this dress. I know it’s not “technically” the same looking outfit Natalie Portman had on, but you’re up against naughty nurses and giant hard-shelled tacos, so people will appreciate the effort.

OPTION #2: Mellie Grant from Scandal

Screen Shot 2015-10-21 at 8.44.08 PMSHOUTOUT TO ALL THE SCANDAL LOVERS! I’m kind of obsessed with Mellie and it’s not just because she has a butt chin like me. Her hair isn’t my style but her volume IS. And she’s totally gorge. If you don’t like this dress, there’s so many other options on RTR. Just throw on some pearls, do your hair, and you’re good to go. You can also do the “haggard Mellie” in a robe, Lay’s potato chip bag, slippers, etc. You can also do the “Running for Senate Mellie” and get a campaign poster. GENIUS.

Rolling off the Mellie Grant, I came across another dress giving me an idea… Elizabeth North.

* You could do Olivia and Abby too with loads of dresses they have to choose from!

Throw this bad boy on. Do a high long pony, bun, or braid. Get some plastic num chucks, swords, etc. and you’re ready to go! HII-YA!

Now, wanna Rent the Runway for Halloween or another time? Get 20% OFF! BOOM.

15 Cheap Date Ideas

Ya’ll. I need to share some great ideas with ya! So right now, Brandon and I are doing premarital class. It’s awesome, I have to say! Most people probably think of premarital class as boring, strict, one-sided – but it’s not! It’s so much fun! If you’re newly married and in the Lincoln, NE area I HIGHLY suggest Lincoln Berean! In class yesterday we were talking about going on dates! It reminded me of this little google doc I created almost a year ago with ideas for cheap date ideas! I just had to share 🙂

IDEA #1 | Groupon + Wine Tastings

I had to put this one first because this is my fave date of ALL TIME. So first off, wine tastings are amazing. Booze + cheese + bread = HALLELUJAH! There’s usually always a Groupon or deal floating around for tastings.

IDEA #2 | Netlfix binge!

Not gonna lie, we did this Saturday. Like, all day. I brought the air mattress into the living room and binged on The Blacklist, then followed it up with Brandon’s pick: the Kobe documentary. So basically it was Steezy: 5 hours of Blacklist, Brandon: 2 hours of Kobe, Both: 2.5 hours of a movie. As you can see we were complete PILES. But at least we were piles together, AMIRIGHT? 🙂 S go grab some popcorn, junk food, wine, dranks, blankets, pillows and watch movies, TV shows, documentaries, etc!

IDEA #3 | Puzzle + Wine

Are you starting to see a wine pattern here? 😉 Grab a puzzle and get some drank / food and you’re set! Sometimes it’s nice to have nights without the TV.

IDEA #4 | Shoot some hoops at your local Y

OR you can just find a playground outside if you’re #blessed with nice weather. If you know our relationship, you know this is probably Brandon’s fave activity out of this list. Top games = H.O.R.S.E. ( of course ) and a little 1-on-1 action.

IDEA #5 | Thrift Store Shoppin’

*cue this song* So here’s how it works. You each get $10 to spend on each other. You then find the best ( or worst ) stuff for your partner using your $10 then give it them as a gift. It’s awesome. We once went to the Party Outlet and did this too. Equally just as great. You can even double this into a couple dates and find some old furniture and turn it into a lil’ DIY date 😉

IDEA #6Restaurant Hop

THIS ONE I WANT TO DO SO BAD. Probably because I love food. Who doesn’t? Anyway, here’s how this works. So first off, be HUNGRY. Because what you’re gonna do is go to one place for an app, a new place for a drink or app, another new place for the main course, a different place for dessert… You can make this elaborate as you want – heck, make this into a drunken feat and hop around a line of bars and have 1 drink at each place!

IDEA #7 | Happy Hours for Two!

This one is easy. Try new happy hours in your area! You might discover something new and amazing! Best of all, it’s cheap!

IDEA #8 | Pinterest ( Attempt ) Night!

This one just sounds like a good/bad time waiting to happen. Good because you’re having fun and trying to make something. Bad because you’re most likely going to end up on You can either build something or try a new recipe. I’ve been dying to try this one.

IDEA #9 | Bowling!

This one might be a given but so much fun just to do the two of you! Go when there’s beer specials too, or better yet, during cosmic bowling!

IDEA #10 | Ice Cream + Walks

I’m stealing this one from our pastor in premarital class. I thought it was cool! He use to walk to the ice cream place  with his now-wife and they would walk around neighborhoods and talk about what kind of house they want in the future while they ate their ice cream. Now that just tugs at my little heartstrings you guyzzz

IDEA #11 | Make dinner at home

This is such an easy one but yet, I forget about it all the time! What if you guys cooked something together and saved a boatload of money and watched each other attempt at cooking. If you’re a good cook, then you’re lucky. Brandon is probably the better cook than I so it would just be fun watching us trying not to burn the place down!

IDEA #12 | Two Words: GAME. NIGHT.

This is the rival date to “puzzle night”. You could even combine the two and have an ultimate party. Stay home, maybe even order a pizza and just play games all night! You could even play truth or dare if the night starts to get booze-filled. 😉

IDEA #13 | Go on a bike ride!

If you don’t have bikes, you can usually rent them from somewhere nearby, especially if you’re close to a college, they will usually have some. Go to Trail Link to discover new paths around town!

IDEA #14 | “Poor-man’s Mini Vaykay”

I’ve got a couple options here for this one…
A. ) Go on a one-day road trip. Find new places to discover around your town / city.
B. ) Be a tourist in your own town! Find new places neither of you haven’t been to and start exploring!

IDEA #15 | Model + Photographer

Go all over the place and take pictures of each other! I always joke that Brandon is my “little model” and he hates it. Obvs. But still! I would love to walk around town and get my pictures taken and heck, maybe you’ll even get a new default out of it! 😉

Am I missing any other good cheap, date ideas peeps?

Why You Should Make a Dream Board

Before you laugh at this blog post, hear me out. I love inspiring things. The Secret is like my bible, Tony Robbins and TED Talks are my muse. So when I was told that I should thrust all of my inspiration onto a board, I was all about that. I also have a weird hoarding problem with magazines so this was the perfect opportunity to dispose my clippings so I can hoard them even longer… on a board. 🙂

So what is a “vision board”? Well, it’s “A tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal. Literally, a vision board is any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life.” ( source )

Here’s what you’re gonna need to succeed ( literally ) 😉

+ A vision and a dream ( hehe)
+ magazines, book, anything you want to snip away at
+ scissors
+ a board
+ glue // tape

Start clipping away at anything that fits your “vision” or inspires you.

then voila ( aka “walla” ) – anyone? anyone else spell it like that? No? Okay.

Your vision board is complete and you will change yo lyfe! Just look at if every day and manifest the powaz!

Pumpkin Decor + Fall Recipe!

#BLOGTOBER14 | DAY 13 | Favorite Fall Recipe

Major fail on doing #BLOGTOBER14 and not stopping, but the weekend rolled around… Sworry!

Today’s post is my fave fall recipe. Since I didn’t get a chance to whip up a recipe ( who am I kidding, I don’t bake often… ) so instead I’m going to share one I’ve shared before and then give you an easy “craft recipe” 😉

So for a yummy ( and healthy! ) fall recipe, I present to you…

Right now, I’m also lovin’ spaghetti squash! DELISH!

Yesterday, I went to Junk Stock – a super awesome ( would you call it a festival? ) of junk and vendors who brings their junk, crafts, you name it! It was pretty awesome but I was a lame-o and came home with one thing… A PUMPKIN!

I wanted to decorate it, so I did and voila!

Now THAT’S a pumpkin! Here’s the ingredients:

( missing: little gems, they’re on the pumpkin 😉 )

Ah, fall is here! Here’s some other sweet pumpkin designs! Carving pumpkins is so over-rated…

How To: Make a Cross Back Tank (No sewing required!)

First off, man am I SOOO happy that we still have hot days in Nebraska. I’m not ready to let go of Summer yet… I know it’s over, but I have issues letting go. Everyone is raving about pumpkin-spiced everything and I’m just over here in my flippy floppys like hey, who wants to go the lake?

Sometimes it’s rough being a summer child.

Luckily I have found a solution to make it feel like summer still… wear tanks of course! 😉

I would like to thank the Nebraska-Miami game for this inspiration (GO ‘SKERS)! First off, picture this: I’m looking for a new Nebraska tank to wear to the game, but the prices are crazy and I know I’m probably only wearing the tank once, right? At least before Fall as we know it hits. So after not wanting to pay the price, I opt for a cheap tee that’s awesome and decide I’ll just cut it up. Well folks, here is the shirt I attempted at (not the one I planned to wear) – and it worked!!!

It was so easy.

But I’m not gonna lie here… I didn’t end up cutting the other shirt because I made a tipsy trip to the Nebraska store and bought this *facepalm*

Cute, right? I justified my purchase that I would wear it more than once because it can double as a gym shirt. So there ya have it 🙂

Notebook <3

Screen Shot 2014-07-08 at 9.24.13 PM

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

Ah, the power of a notebook. I need a notebook. I get pretty scatterbrained sometimes and get on random thoughts and need a little pen and paper! I’m currently on the hunt for a new one and here’s some I’ve found.

PS. I’m realizing I’m like a crazy cat lady but for paper instead of felines. WTF.
